AIDB promotes and carries out numerous activities, either on its own initiative or upon request, aimed at achieving the goals that constitute its mission.

Since its inception in 2004, these activities have spanned the following areas:

  • Members’ Meeting – Held at least once a year, this is the official gathering for members, during which the mission statement and financial report are approved
  • Conferences – The AIDB Conference on Patent Information and Documentation is the leading national event where the latest developments in the field are presented and discussed
  • Seminars – Organization of study and workshop days on technical topics related to patent information
  • AIDB Newsletter – A monthly publication featuring news about events, courses, articles, calls for proposals, regulations, and case law relevant to the patent information sector
  • Working Groups – These are composed of AIDB members and focus on topics of particular interest to the patent documentation community and the patent information sector
  • Working Groups – Less formal gatherings reserved for AIDB members, aimed at exchanging information, ideas, and experiences on specific issues
  • Third-Party Courses – Support for Training Institutions in Teaching Patent Documentation
  • Bernardo Nobile Award – For many years, AIDB has been a sponsor of the Bernardo Nobile Award, organized by Area Science Park, an annual award for bachelor’s or doctoral theses that have highlighted the use of patents as a source of information.
  • QPIP Certification – Support for the activities of ISBQPIP, the managing body of the international QPIP certification
  • External Relations – AIDB maintains relationships with various Italian and foreign organizations, institutions, and associations operating in the field of intellectual property
  • CEPIUG (Confederation of European Patent Information User Groups) — AIDB is a founding member, organized the 10th-anniversary conference, and actively collaborates with European groups
  • SACEPO/PDI (Standing Advisory Committee before the European Patent Office/Patent Documentation and Information) – Since 2007, AIDB has participated with its own representative in the work of the EPO’s advisory committee, which addresses all services offered by the EPO regarding patent information
  • EPO-USPTO CPC Annual Meeting with Industry Users – Since the first edition, AIDB has had its own representative at the annual meeting organized by the EPO and USPTO on developments in the Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC)
  • WIPO IP Information Round Table – AIDB has been a sponsor of this meeting, in which it has participated with its own representatives since the very first edition; the meeting covers all the main services provided by WIPO in the field of patent information
  • WIPO PatCom – AIDB participates in the annual WIPO-PatCom meeting, an event organized by WIPO for IP information professionals.
