Read MoreIt has now become a well-established and nationally recognized event, which last year even extended beyond Italy’s borders, with 234 entries and the awarding of one of the two prizes to Remigiusz Lewandowski, a graduate of the University of Bydgoszcz (Poland), who earned his Ph.D. at the University of Trieste and is now a researcher in the United States. The 2008 Award for master’s degrees, on the other hand, was awarded to Dr. Francesco Mele of the University of Cagliari.
With the call for applications recently published on the Area Science Park website —and available for download on this page—the fifth edition of the Bachelor’s or Doctoral Thesis Award in memory of Dr. Bernardo Nobile is now underway. This year’s focus is primarily on theses that highlight the use of patents as a source of information.
The call for applications is open to those who, no more than two years prior to the application deadline, have earned a master’s degree (under the old system) or a Ph.D. from an Italian university, with no restrictions on age or citizenship.
The award consists of two separate prizes: 3,000 euros for the Master’s Degree Award (or award for degrees under the old system); 3,000 euros for the Doctoral Degree Award.
The AREA initiative, created to honor the professional achievements of Dr. Bernardo Nobile, former director of the PatLib Center, aims to promote research on patent documentation and information by awarding prizes for bachelor’s and doctoral theses that highlight the use of patents as a source of information.
Each candidate may submit only one application for consideration for the award. The application, prepared in accordance with the documentation attached to the call for applications, must be received by 12:00 p.m. on March 31, 2009.
As was the case last year, the initiative is sponsored by AIDB, which will offer the award winner a free annual membership in its association.
