Asian Patent Information – Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, and India: Patent Systems and Information Searches
AIDB, in collaboration with the Asia-Info Department of the European Patent Office, AICIPI, and the Competence Center for Systematic Innovation, organized a theoretical and practical course on “Asian Patent Information—Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, and India: Patent Systems and Information Search.”
The course offers a unique opportunity to learn about the patent systems of China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and India: what information is freely available online at no cost, and how to search for it even without knowing any Asian languages.
The course instructor, Christine Kämmer, studied Chinese and Japanese at the University of Göttingen and at National Cheng Kung University in Tainan (TW), earned a Ph.D. in Chinese language at the University of Tübingen, and has worked at the European Patent Office in Vienna since 2005 in the Asia-Info department, where she primarily handles information requests from Western users regarding patents in the Chinese-speaking region and regularly conducts courses and presentations on this subject.
The Asia-Info Department was established by the European Patent Office specifically to facilitate Western users’ access to the vast wealth of technical, legal, and strategic information contained in Asian patents.
The course, taught in English, includes a theoretical component and a practical component focusing on information retrieval from online databases.
The course will be held on February 28 and 29, 2012, at the Politecnico di Milano. Participation is free for all AIDB members in good standing (at the time of the course), subject to registration, and participants may choose to register for both days or just one.
Registration is open until all available spots are filled, and priority will be given to the first person to register from each club or organization (subject to confirmation for additional registrants from the same club or organization).
