The 2006 AIDB National Conference will be held in Varese at the prestigious Ville Ponti Convention Center, under the patronage of the Chamber of Commerce and the Industrialists’ Union of the Province of Varese. This year’s conference is dedicated to the theme:
THE VALUE OF PATENT INFORMATION IN THE ITALIAN CONTEXT:
Services Provided by Institutions, User Expectations, and the Role of the Patent Information Specialist.
AIDB, the Italian Association of Patent Information Specialists, was founded in 2004 with the aim of promoting a culture of patent information in Italy and enhancing the status of the profession of patent information specialist, that is, those who conduct research in patent databases and technical literature for the purposes of patenting or related activities.
In other words, the role of a patent librarian is to enable companies to stay up to date on what has already been invented internationally, so that they can direct their R&D toward truly new areas and plan an effective strategy for protecting their industrial property.
Patent information also provides a very in-depth and comprehensive understanding of the international industrial landscape, given that more than 80% of the descriptions of new products and processes are available to the public only in the patent literature.
The 2006 AIDB Conference is therefore a unique event in the Italian landscape of activities supportinginnovation and will feature presentations by top-level representatives of institutions that provide patent information and management services (the Italian Patent and Trademark Office, European Patent Office), professionals who interpret patent information (industrial property attorneys), patent information specialists themselves (who work in the corporate sector, in the public sector, or in private practice), and the leading international providers and distributors of patent databases.
Attendance at the conference is free and open to all members; for non-members, admission is subject to availability.

The conference will be preceded, on February 23, bythe Annual Members’ Meeting, which is open only to members who are up to date with their 2006 membership dues.
