AIDB 2012 General Assembly and Conference, Vicenza, May 15–16, 2012

The 8th National Conference on Patent Information, organized in collaboration with the Giacomo Rumor Foundation – Veneto Productivity Center, will be held in Vicenza on the topic “Quality of Patent Information—The Value of Patents as a Documentary Source and Its Challenges.”

The annual conference of the Italian Association of Patent Document Specialists (AIDB) is the leading national event in the field of technical, scientific, and legal information—represented by the millions of patents that make up a vast, yet still underutilized, international archive.
The 2012 edition, organized in collaboration with the G. Rumor Foundation – Veneto Productivity Center (CPV), is dedicated to the quality of patent information and related documents in all decision-making processes that take place within a company.
According to data from the European Commission, 30% of the resources invested in research each year go toward projects that have already been carried out by others.
The use of patent information is cited as one of the most effective ways to avoid this enormous waste of resources, which amounts to several billion euros.
While Italian companies are already lagging behind their major international competitors in the use of this resource, in the realm of national research—with a few exceptions—this underutilization appears to be even more pronounced.
The AIDB Conference therefore aims to promote awareness of the opportunities that patent documentation offers to the world of technical and scientific research, with the additional goal of highlighting research findings and accessing funding.
Similarly, innovative companies and intellectual property professionals will find interesting insights here that will help them explore the subject in greater depth.
