2008 AIDB National Conference

On Thursday, June 5, and Friday, June 6, 2008, at the Sala Longhi of Unioncamere (Rome headquarters), the AIDB Annual Members’ Meeting and the 2008 National Conference will be held, entitled: “CHINA, THE FAR EAST, AND OTHERS: How to Understand Developments in Asian Technology Through Patents.

The conference organized annually by the Italian Association of Patent Documentalists (AIDB) is a leading national event in the field of documentation for the protection of industrial property.
The 2008 edition, organized in collaboration with Unioncamere and Dintec, focuses on the opportunities offered by patents to monitor and understand technological developments in Asia.
Globally, over 1,600,000 patent applications are filed each year, with an annual growth rate of around 5%. Alongside the U.S., the top four spots in the global ranking of patent filers are held by Japan, China, and South Korea. In particular, the figure for China is growing exponentially; the country can no longer be counted among the world’s “emerging” powers in technological innovation, but rather among those that have “emerged.”
In the Western world, there is a common stereotype that associates China with the label “country of copies,” but in reality, alongside this significant phenomenon, there is the extraordinary industrial and technological growth of Chinese companies, the effects of which are impacting the entire global economy.
The 2008 Conference on Industrial Property aims to draw the attention of the Italian professional, institutional, and business communities by taking stock of the context and the relationships between Italian industry and innovation in the Far East.
Through presentations by experts, the conference seeks to assess the impact of Asian patents on the Italian industrial landscape and the role of patent information as a strategic tool available to companies that view Asia as either an opportunity or a formidable competitor.
