2011 Bernardo Nobile Graduation Award

Once again this year, the Consortium for the Trieste Scientific and Technological Research Area (AREA) is announcing an annual undergraduate or doctoral thesis award for theses that highlight the use of patents as a source of information. This year, the award has been expanded to include a third new category dedicated to theses that have led to the filing of a patent application in the field of energy efficiency or renewable energy. The award recognizes the professionalism demonstrated by Dr. Bernardo Nobile, founder and director of the PatLib Center at AREA Science Park, in the course of his work.
The call for applications is open to anyone who, no more than two years prior to the application deadline, has earned a master’s degree, a specialized degree (under the old system), or a Ph.D. from an Italian university, with no restrictions on age or citizenship.

The Award consists of three different categories:

  • €2,000 (before statutory tax withholdings) for the Master’s degree, specialized degree, or degree under the old system award;
  • €2,000 (before statutory tax withholdings) for the Ph.D. graduation award;
  • €2,000 (before statutory tax withholdings) for the award given to a bachelor’s or doctoral thesis that explicitly uses patents as a source of information in the fields of energy efficiency or renewable energy and that has led to the filing of a patent application.

Each candidate may submit only one application for the award selection process.

The complete call for entries, the application form, and the winning theses from previous sessions are available on the website: www.area.trieste.it/premionobile

The deadline for the call for applications is May 5, 2011.

As in previous years, the initiative is sponsored by AIDB, which will offer the award winners a free annual membership in its association.
