Seminar: “Classifying with the Cooperative Patent Classification”
The European Patent Academy of the EPO (European Patent Office) organized a two-day seminar at the EPO headquarters in The Hague on June 17–18, 2013, with the aim of providing an overview of the objectives, characteristics, operation, and tools related to the new CPC classification.
The Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) is a new global classification system for patent documentation, comprising over 250,000 codes. It is the result of joint efforts by the European Patent Office (EPO) and the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), aimed at developing a system that incorporates the best classification practices of both organizations.
The seminar will focus on the following topics:
- Overview of the Origins and Development of the CPC System
- an in-depth look at the structure and underlying concepts of the CPC system
- A Look at the Cooperation and Harmonization Aspects of the CPC
- Workshops on how to use the CPC and the implications of its implementation
The seminar is specifically designed for those working in the patent offices of various European countries, as well as for all technology information professionals.
