Area Science Park is announcing its annual award for bachelor’s or doctoral theses that have effectively utilizedpatent documentation andinformation, as well as data analytics methodologies and techniques, to extract valuable content from bibliographic sources.
The award consists of four categories:
- Two awards for bachelor’s or doctoral theses that have utilized and documentedthe use of patents as a source of information (Categories 1 and 2).
- An award reserved for bachelor’s or doctoral theses that have utilized and documented the use of data science methodologies and Big Data analytics techniques to extract valuable information from bibliographic sources (Cat. 3).
- An award for a bachelor’s or doctoral thesis that has addressed and documented the debate between Open Data in the public sector and scientific research and the privatization of knowledge (Cat. 4).
The award recognizes the professionalism demonstrated by Dr. Bernardo Nobile, founder and first director of the PatLib Center at Area Science Park, in the course of his work. At the same time, it serves as an incentive through which Area Science Park encourages young people to understand, harness, and recognize the informational value of patents, research data, and the new investigative and analytical techniques and methodologies that make it possible to interpret and evaluate them.
ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES
This call for applications is open to graduates and Ph.D. holders who have earned a master’s degree or a Ph.D., at an Italian university no more than three years prior to the call’s deadline, having submitted a thesis—in Italian or English—that demonstrates clear evidence of:
- the significant use of patents (Categories 1 and 2);
- the application of data science and analytics methodologies and techniques for the management, integration, and extraction of content from bibliographic sources (Cat. 3);
- the consideration of trends, issues, and developments at the European level regarding the topic covered by the category, as reported by authoritative and reputable sources (Cat. 4).
AWARDS
A prize of €2,500 will be awarded to each winner in the four different categories.
SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS
The application for admission to this Call for Applications, prepared in accordance with the application template “Attachment 1, ” together with the other required attachments ( see the dedicated webpage), must be received by 11:59 p.m. on November 30, 2022, via personal certified email (PEC), at protocollo@pec.areasciencepark.it.
The subject line of the email, to which the application and supporting documentation must be attached, must include the following text:“XVIII BERNARDO NOBILE AWARD.”
