Trieste’s Area Science Park is announcing the 20th edition of the Bernardo Nobile Award for bachelor’s or doctoral theses, sponsored once again this year by AIDB, with six cash prizes of €2,500 each.
Winners will also be given the opportunity to join AIDB free of charge for the remainder of the current year and for the following year.
The award was established in memory of Dr. Bernardo Nobile, the founder and first director of the PatLib Center at Area Science Park, and has established itself over the years as a tool to encourage and promote young people’s deeper exploration and utilization of the informational potential of patents, research data, and new investigative and analytical techniques and methodologies that enable their interpretation and use.
There are four categories for the Award in which you can enter:
Category 1: 1 award for a master’s or specialized thesis written by explicitly using and documenting the use of patents as a source of information, possibly also analyzing the opportunities arising from the use of AI techniques in the research, processing, and analysis of data and information or in the management of IP-related processes (e.g., portfolio management, drafting claims, verifying procedural steps, etc.);
Category No. 2: 1 award for a doctoral dissertation that explicitly uses and documents the use of patents as a source of information and/or, where applicable, analyzes the opportunities arising from the use of AI techniques in the research, processing, and analysis of data and information, or in the management of IP-related processes (e.g., portfolio management, drafting claims, verifying procedural steps, etc.)
Category No. 3: 4 awards for master’s or specialist theses and/or doctoral dissertations that have explored the impact and/or application of deep tech, possibly including foresight analysis, forecasting, or anticipatory analysis, with reference to the following sectors:
- life sciences
- materials science
- advanced digital technologies
- green energy sectors
Italian or foreign citizens, regardless of age, who have earned, at an Italian university, no more than three years prior to the application deadline specified in this call for applications, a master’s degree or a specialized master’s degree, or a Ph.D.
Applications, accompanied by the documentation specified in the call for applications, must be received by 11:59 p.m. on June 30, 2025, via certified email (PEC) at protocollo@pec.areasciencepark.it. The subject line of the email must include the following text: “XX Edition of the Bernardo Nobile Award.”
